Kings

I think it's the best show i've seen in a while- Kings.

I was over at D Gizzle's one night after Impact for games and food... Well, come to think of it, it turned out to be just games... But there was a show on in the background that i'd never seen before. Kings. Dustin explained that it was a new drama based on/inspired by the story of King David from the Bible. "It's good," he said. After perusing his movie selection i knew i could trust his endorsement.

Sometime that next week i looked it up on Hulu and instantly, i was hooked. The production level and storyline are more film quality than TV. The tale unfolds in the first episode foreshadowing the end of one king's reign and a new anointing. The struggle for control, power, and the loyalty of countrymen consumes Silas (pictured left) as he resists Gods call for change that will serve and lead the people into a new era. As he fights to keep his people and his crown he forgets the key to his once lived success. He forgets who gave him his position.

The season is excellent (although skip ep. 3 and you won't miss anything good- in my free time i caught up on all 12 episodes.) Actually watching it got me reading through I and II Samuel again to hear the true story and marveling at that mysterious thing know as God's favor. I think there are many takeaways from the show but there is one message that comes through strong at the conclusion of the season: No man, regardless of his pride and determination, can trump God's will for his people.

You'd think if the reason you're given when you're let go of a ministry position is "you're not a good fit" then there would be no grounds for immediate dismissal. You'd think you would be allowed to transition other people to take over you ministry responsibilities, time to look for another job, a chance to get some closure and say goodbye.

Since i asked directly during that fateful board meeting what the complaints of the congregation were and- nothing, asked if there was ever anything Nathan was asked to do or improve on that he didn't do and- nothing... Since there was no moral sin or any reason for immediate termination i've asked myself many times why things had to go down the way they did... Since rumors have been spread- reputation damaging untruths- with seemingly no one (or at best, few) willing to stand up and shout "This isn't right..." If you ask me what i think happened here, i'd say watch Kings.
